Practice statement regarding ‘Weight Loss Injections’ – NOT available for prescription from GP
We are experiencing a large number of enquiries from patients regarding starting ‘injections for weight loss’ e.g. Ozepmic, Wegovy, Mounjaro.
We are currently unable to prescribe these injectable medications for weight loss in primary care on the NHS.
The only patients currently eligible for these prescriptions on the NHS are those with uncontrolled diabetes and who are referred to the Hospital Diabetes Team. They may be started on them on the NHS by their hospital team, and some patients who are under the weight management service and would receive prescriptions from this team.
If you wish to explore your weight loss options on the NHS you can self-refer to the weight management team via this link:
https://abuhb.nhs.wales/hospitals/a-z-of-services/weight-management-service/
If you are unable to complete the form online, please call the referral line on 0300 303 4906. The referral line is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-16:00.
Please note you will not be registered on the waiting list until you have completed a self-referral form. There is a significant waiting list for this service.

Practice Statement regarding follow up after private weight loss/bariatric surgery
We receive a high number of requests to provide ongoing bloods and monitoring after patient have private bariatric surgery. After discussion with our LMC and MDU this is not a service we are indemnified to provide and does not form part of our NHS services. We can provide the same care to private patients as those who had surgery through the NHS route, which is to prescribe some medications, but any blood test monitoring is done via a specialist for the first 2 post operative years. If you have had private bariatric surgery any ongoing blood tests and monitoring will need to be done privately.
Non NHS Requests & Charges (see charges at bottom of page)
NON-NHS Requests & Charges
Most of the services offered by the surgery are free under the N.H.S. Some services are not covered under the N.H.S. and for these Tonyfelin Medical Centre can charge a fee. The fee will reflect both the Doctor’s time to carry out the service and the Doctor’s professional opinion. It may include the cost of nursing or administrative support and stationery. If you have any concerns about the fee involved please discuss this with us prior to requesting any service.
PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 2 WEEKS FOR YOUR REQUEST TO BE PROCESSED
